Shaun Tomson
Easily one of the most significant surfers of the modern epoch, Shaun Tomson's poise in the barrel and on land made him easily identifiable. Urbane, articulate, and polished--to a fault, some might say--Shaun Tomson was the surf world's first real professional. In an era of rough-sanded, blue collar Australians and streetwise Hawaiians, Tomson strode in like Jay Gatsby. His trip was honed, his speech learned, and his hair perfect...the embodiment of the colonial sportsman.
Tomson first gained notoriety for his performances at Jeffrey's Bay, considered the world's premier right pointbreak, where he adopted his low, sprawling stance, and tuned what became one of the cleanest roundhouse cutbacks in the game.
